Last Day of School

Yesterday was the last day of school for us. It was kind of a different feeling knowing that I would probably not return to a classroom setting for the rest of my career. There are some things that I will definitely miss about that. I do think that is why I enjoy summer football so much. I feel like when we are instructing and putting offenses and defenses in without the immediate pressure of a game looming that it takes the place of any type of classroom. i think the fact that it is just an extension of the classroom is what I find so appealing. The staff was great. i really did not expect the nice gift card that I received. I'm just moving across the parking lot! I got a great "gag" gift from my PE colleagues. a rather large paddle with the inscription, "Walking Tall" written on it. I hope I don't need that in my new job as assistant principal at Dunlap Middle School. Tomorrow (Friday) I plan on returning up to school to make sure everything is ready and organized for workouts on Monday. I am really looking forward to Monday. Hopefully the kids and coaches are as well.

Coach Aldy's Blog....

Great Blog...I am glad you are learning something!

Welcome

Welcome to my blog. This blog is going to capture and describe my last season as the head football coach of the Dunlap High School Eagles. We are starting our workouts in 8 days on June 2nd. I always look forward to workouts as they signal the beginning of a new season. This year we are coming off of a 9-2 year in which we lost several experienced players. A lot of expectations are not for us to have a great season. This will hopefully prove false and the kids will rise to the challenge of showing people that they will relish the challenge of going above and beyond those expectations. My biggest concern at this point is the leadership that our senior class will provide. They were great complimentary players for last years seniors, but now will be expected to provide leadership to our younger players. It will be interesting as all seasons always are to say the least. I will try to post on at least a weekly basis and comment on our progress and my personal feelings. I hope that no feelings will be hurt, but I think that this will be a neat way to document my last season as a coach in this sport that has consumed the biggest part of my professional life.
